How does a Generator Light Tower Work?

Generator light towers supply illumination for a large area through a battery powered portable generator.  A generator is connected with electrical cords to a control box.  The control box wires run up through a tall pole known as a mast.  At the top of the mast is the lighting fixture which typically has anywhere between 4 and 16 lamps.  The lighting fixture is called an outrigger.  The mast pole is extendable to provide a variety of settings in height, and the outrigger is designed to be able to rotate 360 degrees.  The amount of operational running time depends on the power and size of your generator.  Most portable generators will operate a minimum of 10 hours and some up will run up to 100 hours on one fuel tank.  Diesel generators are preferred over natural gas portable generators because they are more cost effective.  Others choose the natural gas because it is more accessible.
